To the best of my knowledge this
particular Pink Heather's latin name is "Erica Carnea"
although it is possibly a hybrid. Erica Carnea is a low
growing evergreen plant with a spreading habit. Generally it
produces flowers from January to late April. Its natural habit
is the semi alpine regions of Northern Italy and countries
bordering the Adriatic Sea.
This
particular example was photographed in the grounds of St.
Peters and St. Pauls church in Fareham (Hampshire) on New
Years Day, and along with Snowdrops in the same grounds was
one of the first wildflowers I photographed this year.
My equipment of choice for
photographing wildflower is a Canon EOS7d mkii with a Tamron
90mm macro lens. Luckily it was a fairly bright day despite
the cloud cover enabling me to use a pretty fast shutter speed
with the lens wide open and not too drastic an increase in the
iso settings.... f2.8 1/500sec and iso 320. |
