During one of my fairly regular
wanders around Crescent Garden in Gosport, I came across this
Purple Autumn Crocus (which to be honest I didn't know
existed). As always I will shoot from several different angles
and heights, I shot some groups of 3 or 4 and several singles
flowers, but this was my favourite of the day - backlit by the
sun which cast the lovely shadows of the stamen on the inside
of the petals.
Colchicum
Autumnale, commonly known as autumn crocus, meadow saffron or
naked ladies, is a toxic autumn-blooming flowering plant that
resembles the true crocuses, but is a member of the plant
family Colchicaceae, unlike the true crocuses which belong to
the family Iridaceae. |
