Watermelon floral art features
Dahlia 'Watermelon'. With its enormous dinner plate size
flower heads and its waterfall of twisting and twirling petals
it gives a very glamorous display. Photographed in my garden
in August 2021 dahlias are one of my favourite flowers to
photograph and I would never be without them in my garden,
'Watermelon' the latest arrival and indeed very glamorous.
According
to The National Dahlia Society, the dahlia has been in Europe
for over two hundred years. They came from Mexico to the
Botanical Gardens in Madrid towards the end of the eighteenth
century. Today there are cultivars in the form of the
waterlily, the paeony, the orchid, the chrysanthemum and the
anemone. Then there are the main formations like the
decorative, the cactus and semi-cactus types, and the ball
forms that have as their smallest relative the popular pompon.
