The Shannon-class lifeboat is the
latest class of lifeboat currently being deployed to the RNLI
fleet to serve the shores of the British Isles. She’s the
first modern all-weather lifeboat to be propelled by waterjets
instead of traditional propellers, making her the most agile
and manoeuvrable all-weather lifeboat yet.
This particular Lifeboat has been
named Antony Patrick Jones after a local man who bequifed the
funds needed to build it. It is based at Bridling Lifeboat
station, but was photographed at the Cowes Sailing event in
the Isle of Wight.
RNLI crews
and lifeguards have saved over 142,200 lives since 1824 but
they’re more than a rescue service. They influence, supervise
and educate people too. The Community Safety teams explain the
risks and share safety knowledge with anyone going out to sea
or to the coast. The international teams work with like-minded
organisations to help tackle drowning in communities at risk
all around the world. The RNLI rely on the support of the
British public to operate so please visit the website if you
would like to donate or support them.
