Trenchard Flight was a special
display by the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight (BBMF) in
2018 to mark 100 years of the Royal Air Force. The display was
named after Hugh Montague Trenchard who is often referred to
as the ‘Father of the Royal Air Force’ due to the significant
role he played during its creation in 1918. The unique display
consisted of the Lancaster, Dakota, Hurricane and Spitfire,
they can be seen here arriving in formation together at the
Cosford Air Show in 2018.
The Royal
Air Force’s BBMF operates from RAF Coningsby, in Lincolnshire.
The mission of the RAF BBMF is to maintain the priceless
artefacts of our national heritage in airworthy condition in
order to commemorate those who have fallen in the service of
this country, to promote the modern-day Air Force and to
inspire the future generations. It is flown by regular serving
RAF Aircrew and the Flight operates six Spitfires, two
Hurricanes, a Lancaster as well as a C47 Dakota and two
Chipmunk aircraft.
