The European robin (Erithacus
rubecula), known simply as the robin or robin redbreast in the
UK, is a small insectivorous passerine bird. It has been voted
as the Nation’s favourite bird and is an icon of the British
countryside. It is one of the few birds that will sing
throughout the year but is particularly vocal during the early
spring where it is a key member of the dawn chorus orchestra.
This image was taken after heavy
snowfall. The Robin looks especially at home in our wintry
weather and the image has an almost Christmassy feel to it. I
love the contrast of the Robins Red-breast compared to the
pure white of the snow. I took this image at the Wolseley
Centre Nature Reserve which is the headquarters of the
Staffordshire Wildlife Trust and popular spot for local
wildlife enthusiast, families and photographers. |
