Image taken in May 2015 at the Big
Cat Sanctuary in Smarden, Kent. Ben (born 22 May 2002) and his
partner Mandalay were a former breeding pair of clouded
leopards. They came to BCS from Howletts Wild Animal Park at
Bekesbourne, nr Canterbury, Kent. During his time at BCS, Ben
was the most "adopted" cat they had, due to his outgoing and
unusually forward character.
The Big
Cat Sanctuary covers over 30 acres of land, the Big Cat
Sanctuary (BCS) was founded in 2000 by the Sampson family who
owned the site's sister park, Paradise Wildlife Park in
Hertfordshire. While BCS operates under the Zoo Licencing Act
1981, it is not a conventional zoo and does not open to the
public. Instead they raise money via personal experiences such
as photography and "ranger" days. Open Days are arranged
during the summer.
