Situated just a couple of miles from the village of Lyndhurst, is one of the most popular area's in the New Forest. The trail was planted in the late 1850's to create the Rhinefield Ornamental Drive leading to the nearby Rhinefield House. Walking this trail you will find many majestic trees including many Redwoods and Douglas Firs, and also the two tallest trees in the New Forest - a pair of Wellington Coast Redwoods.
Walking the trail in Autumn is a really pleasing experience... the beautiful oranges and reds juxtaposed against the blue sky is quite breathtaking. In addition there is a wide and varied mix of fungi that can be found on the trees and the ground (some real gems can be found in the ww2 bomb craters), and although they usually keep away from this area, you may also see some of the many deer that live in the forest, not to mention the ponies.
