Lancaster Cockpit was another photo taken at one of my favourite airshows in the UK calendar, namely Dunsfold Wings & Wheels. There are two reasons I love this airshow so much: 1) The sun is pretty much behind you all day long and 2) due to the proximity of Gatwick Airport, the displays are always flat for the most part so as not to interfere with the aforementioned airspace.

Because of the flat display the aircraft are so much closer due to low level fly pasts. I am usually armed with my 7d mkii and a 100-400L mki, but my father has recently traded in his old Sigma 120-400 for a Sigma 150-600c, and we decided to mix it up a bit and swap lenses throughout the day. This photo was taken with the 150-600 when the aircraft was at it's lowest and closest to us.

This print features the BBMF Lancaster, one of only two Lancaster aircraft remaining in airworthy condition out of the 7,377 that were built. PA474 did not take part in hostilities as she rolled off the production line just after the War in Europe ended. She was being prepared for use against the Japanese, but again hostilities in the Far East ceased before she was deployed.

The new nose art for 2018 is a kangaroo playing bagpipes and is a replica of the artwork on a wartime Lancaster "L for Leader" from the RAAF which flew out of RAF Binbrook. The Lancaster has been painted on one side to represent the aircraft flown in by veteran Dave Fellowes who recently passed away.
