Aquilegia’s are an old-fashioned cottage garden favourite, common names, Granny’s Bonnet and Columbine. Complex and beautiful the flowers come in a range of colours, they are a member of the buttercup family and can be seen growing wild in meadows and woodlands. Flowering in late Spring to early Summer they will self-seed and keep coming back year after year.
“Like a chorus girl that marries into the aristocracy, the Columbine is but a common wildflower that has made itself a multiple recipient of the Royal Horticultural Society’s Award of Garden Merit”. They are a magnet for honey-bees, bumble-bees and butterflies, and a firm favourite for flower photographers.
