The European robin (Erithacus rubecula), known simply as the robin or robin redbreast in the UK, is a small insectivorous passerine bird. It has recently been voted as the Nation’s favourite bird and is an icon of the British countryside.
It is one of the few birds that will sing throughout the year, but is particularly vocal during the early spring where it is a key member of the dawn chorus orchestra. This picture was taken during an early morning walk around Carsington Water in Derbyshire. A stunning location at any time of the year, but on a beautiful spring morning it is a truly magical place.
