Photographed in my garden in August 2019 this variety of Rudbeckia Hirta is called ‘Marmalade’ with their large golden/yellow blooms they are loved by bees and butterflies.
Rudbeckia are excellent in flower borders and are wonderful in flower arrangements. Also known as Black-Eyed Susan and Coneflower they are late Summer flowering.
Rudbeckias originate from North America and belong to the sunflower family. Other names include, brown-eyed Susan, Brown Betty, Gloriosa Daisy, Golden Jerusalem, English bull’s eye, Poor-land Daisy, Yellow Daisy, and Yellow Ox-eye Daisy.
There are lots of cultivated varieties available, some grown as short lived annuals, Marmalade is classed as a Summer annual but easy to grow from seeds that germinate quickly. They give a stunning display grouped together in the Summer border.
