Hayling Island Sunset

Hayling Island Sunset was photographed one summer evening in August, on the beach on the south west corner of the Island. We wanted to photograph the sunset at low-tide in order to get out on the beach and capture the ripples in the sand and the pools of water left behind by the receding water. 

This took months of planning, as low tide and sunset only happn together around every 3 weeks, and a number of times we had to reschedule eithdr due to rain or generally overcast skies. So everything fell into place on this day and the 3 of us trecked a good half mile from the car park to find a suitable spot facing west in the direction of Portsmouth and the setting sun. 

The sun actually set behind some clouds and so we had to suffice with the orange glow it left behind. I opted for a natural treatments and my editing was minimal as I didn't want to upset the blance of the oranges and blues in the sky and have either overpower the other. The result was some beautiful reflections of the sky in the small pools and in a large channel in front of us, in addition to which the sun grazed the top of the sand ripples and gave some definition to what would otherwise have been a black void on the photo.
