This photo of Artur the Amur Leopard was taken in May 2015 at the Big Cat Sanctuary in Smarden, Kent. Born 14 September 2002 at Novosibirsk Zoo in Russia, Artur arrived at BCS in 2004. He was paired with Xizi with whom he sired two cubs in 2008.
The Big Cat Sanctuary covers over 30 acres of land, the Big Cat Sanctuary (BCS) was founded in 2000 by the Sampson family who owned the site's sister park, Paradise Wildlife Park in Hertfordshire. While BCS operates under the Zoo Licencing Act 1981, it is not a conventional zoo and does not open to the public. Instead they raise money via personal experiences such as photography and "ranger" days. Open Days are arranged during the summer.
